Target Identification Service

Target Identification Service

Generally, there are two scenarios you want to perform a drug identification analysis. The first scenario is you "have a drug of efficacy but the target is unknown". The other is you "need to find a target for new drug discovery and development". Whether you are performing studies on cell and gene therapy, antibody therapy, insulin alternatives or other treatments about diabetes, Ace Metabolism can provide a full range of services related to diabetes.

A Target-based Drug Discovery Process

When you need to find a target for new drug discovery and development, target identification is also known as target discovery, where a druggable target needs to be established before drug screening. A gene or a biomarker with known functions in diabetes process is identified to generate drug screening assays.

  • Genes Related to Diabetes
Most genes related to diabetes are related to β-cells function related. The genetic risk of T1DM is mainly based on human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing, and the most critical gene is HLA class II antigen gene.
  • Non-genetic Biomarkers of Diabetes
Metabolites can be identified as biomarkers that may be useful for the diagnosis or treatment of diabetes. Metabolites, microRNA or other biomolecules can be biomarkers for diabetes.
  • Receptors Associated with Diabetes
The receptors associated with diabetes mainly include the insulin receptor, leptin receptor, adipokine, cytokines, etc. The glucagon and GLP-1 receptors are both important drug targets for type 2 diabetes and obesity. These results may help inform the design of new drugs to regulate blood glucose levels.

A Phenotype-based Drug Discovery Process

When you have a drug of efficacy but the target is unknown, target identification is also known as target deconvolution, where the determination of the small molecular target is after the drug has been proved to exert the desired effect. Phenotypic discovery is a mechanistic agnostic strategy. Therapeutics are identified by the effect upon a phenotype and subsequently the newly identified therapeutics are used to identify the mechanism of action.
