Iron Metabolism-related Disease Research Services

Iron metabolism related disorders are one of the common human diseases that manifest mainly as iron deficiency or iron overload. As research into iron metabolism and the mechanisms regulating iron homeostasis has led to an initial understanding of hereditary iron deficiency and a better understanding of hereditary iron overload, Ace Therapeutics offers a range of research services related to iron metabolism-related disorders to assist our clients with relevant drug development and pathology studies.

Abnormal Iron Metabolism Related Diseases

Iron is an important trace element that sustains the life of living organisms. The metabolic process of iron has a well-controlled system in higher animals, including humans, to maintain a relative balance between iron absorption and excretion. Many diseases can lead to abnormal iron metabolism; abnormal iron metabolism can also cause many diseases. There are two major types of iron metabolism abnormalities: iron overload and iron deficiency.

  • Iron Overload Diseases
Iron overload can be defined as an excess of iron in the body, regardless of the presence of tissue damage. Iron overload is usually divided into two categories: primary (or inherited) and secondary (or acquired). Primary iron overload is the result of an inherited defect in the regulation of iron homeostasis, while secondary iron overload is almost always the result of other genetic or acquired disorders.
Primary Iron Overload Secondary Iron Overload
  • Hemochromatosis
  • Iron Transport Protein Disease

Iron‐loading Anemias

  • Thalassemia
  • Sideroblastic Anemia
  • Chronic Haemolytic Anemia

Parenteral Iron Overload

  • Red Blood Cell Transfusions
  • Long‐term Hemodialysis
  • Iron Deficiency Diseases
Iron deficiency (ID) is defined as a decrease in the body's total iron content that occurs when iron loss or demand exceeds its absorption. ID is the most common nutritional deficiency and the leading cause of anemia worldwide and remains one of the most important public health problems. ID can be caused by a variety of reasons and is usually divided into two categories: increased iron demand and decreased iron intake or absorption.
